Passed the practical test — can you drive yet? Check your status

You passed the practical driving test and would happily get behind the wheel straight away. Before you set off, check one thing: whether your entitlement and temporary electronic driving licence are already visible in the system.

The short answer

For categories AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, B+E and T, the date of entitlement is normally the day of the positive state-test result. If you pass before reaching the minimum age for the category, however, the entitlement starts only when the temporary licence is generated after you reach that age. You must not drive before that day. The document is valid in Poland until you collect the permanent licence, but for no longer than 30 days from the positive result or, in this exception, from generation of the document.

Before driving, open mObywatel or mObywatel Junior and make sure the temporary document is active. If it is missing, do not assume the paper result from the test is enough. Wait for the data update or clarify the status with the WORD examination centre and your local authority.

1. Give WORD time to send the result

After you pass, the regional road traffic centre, known in Poland as WORD, sends the result to the system used by the issuing authority. The temporary licence is generated after that information arrives and the conditions for the category are met. If the test took place before the minimum age, the system waits until you reach that age before generating the document.

This is usually quick, but do not base the decision to drive only on hearing that you passed. What should you do instead? Look for the active document in the app. If the data has not appeared, first ask WORD to confirm that the result was sent.

2. Remember both limits: 30 days and Poland only

The temporary electronic licence expires when you collect the permanent document, or after 30 days from the positive result at the latest. It does not extend simply because the physical card is still being produced.

The document is valid only within Poland. Do not use it as the basis for a driving trip to Germany, Czechia, Ukraine or any other country. Wait for the permanent licence before driving abroad and check the rules of the destination country.

3. Pay PLN 100 and send the receipt

You do not restart the whole application after the test. The authority already has the application used to create your Polish driver-candidate profile, known as PKK. It still needs proof that you paid the document issuance fee.

The official fee is PLN 100. Pay at the authority’s cash desk or by bank transfer, following its instructions, and submit the receipt in the required way. Production may not start without that confirmation.

4. Track production instead of guessing

Gov.pl states that the licence should be ready within nine working days after the authority receives proof of payment. If the case needs clarification, the process may take up to one month, or exceptionally up to two months.

You can check the status in Info-Car with your PESEL number, first name and surname. If nothing changes for several days, contact the authority and ask whether it has recorded the payment and received the result from WORD.

5. No temporary document means stop and check

The temporary electronic licence does not cover every category. Categories C and D, for example, are not included. The system may also withhold the document if the age condition is not met, the result has not arrived or a legal obstacle exists. If you passed before the minimum age, wait for the document to be generated after your birthday; only then does the entitlement begin and the 30-day period start.
