Does Poland's passed theory test expire after 6 months? The myth that still worries candidates

A passed Polish theory test currently has no expiry date. Here is where the six-month myth came from and what you should still verify.

A passed Polish state driving theory test is currently valid indefinitely. You do not have to pass the practical test within six months or one year merely to preserve your theory result.

Where the six-month myth comes from

Under older rules, a theory result did have limited validity. That information survives in old articles, forum posts and the memories of people who took the test years ago. Today, Article 52 of the Act on Vehicle Drivers requires a positive theory result before the practical test but sets no expiry date.

WORD Warsaw's current guidance explicitly confirms that qualifying theory results are valid indefinitely.

What may still need updating

An indefinite theory result does not mean every part of your file remains current forever. Before returning to training or booking the practical test, check:

  • whether your PKK data are correct and available,
  • whether your medical certificate contained an expiry date,
  • whether your personal details have changed,
  • whether the driving school correctly completed and updated your practical training,
  • whether you are applying for a different category with separate requirements.

If several years have passed, ask the local authority or WORD to verify your profile. Do not automatically pay for another theory test.

Should you take the practical test quickly anyway?

The law does not force you to rush, but knowledge and skills fade. After a long break, revise road signs, priority rules and any regulations that changed.

Indefinite legal validity protects the result; it does not guarantee that your knowledge is still current.

The short answer

  • The theory result does not expire after six months.
  • There is currently no statutory expiry period.
  • Check your PKK, medical status and knowledge before practical training.

If you are returning after a break, take a full mock test. The result will show whether a quick revision is enough or a structured refresh is needed.
