Is Poland removing the manoeuvring yard? The 2026 driving-test reform—without the rumours
Headlines already promise a revolution, but the main changes are still proposals. Here is what applies now and what may change later.
No—the manoeuvring-yard section of Poland's category B test has not disappeared, and the question bank has not yet been reduced. The Ministry of Infrastructure announced a major reform, but as of 23 July 2026 the measures described remain proposals.
What the proposal would change
The plan includes:
- removing the separate manoeuvring-yard section for categories B and B1,
- assessing manoeuvres in real traffic,
- reducing the number of questions in the official catalogue,
- creating a new Examination Centre and advisory council,
- testing new questions before they affect a candidate's score,
- regularly removing outdated or unsuitable questions.
Training on a yard would not disappear. The ministry says driving schools would continue to use it, especially during the first lessons.
What applies today
The theory test still contains 32 questions, lasts 25 minutes and requires at least 68 out of 74 points. The category B practical test still includes tasks on the manoeuvring yard.
Do not delay learning in the hope of an easier examination. No final date has been set for candidates to move to the proposed system.
Why some headlines are misleading
The ministry's announcement sets out a direction. The government register contains project assumptions, but the bill must still pass through the legislative process. Its wording can change and individual measures may receive different commencement dates.
“The government plans” does not mean “the law is in force.” Only an enacted and published measure with a commencement date changes the test.
What candidates should do
- Learn the current 32-question format.
- Practise until you repeatedly score above 68.
- Prepare for the current yard tasks.
- Check your WORD centre's official notice before the test.
- Avoid courses promising a “new exam” before the law exists.
