How can you recognise this group?
They are generally circular, with a red border and a symbol on a light background. The octagonal B-20 STOP sign is recognisable from every side.
How do they work on the road?
A prohibition applies within the scope defined by the particular sign, the regulations and any plate. Different prohibitions end in different ways, so learn the rule for each sign.
- B-20 requires a full stop at the legally specified place and giving way.
- B-33 sets a maximum speed, not a recommended speed in every condition.
- B-35 prohibits parking; B-36 also prohibits voluntary stopping.
- A plate may specify an exception, a distance or the length of the restricted section.

Legal basis for Polish road signs
The meaning and scope of road signs are defined by the Polish regulation on road signs and signals. This guide also includes changes effective from 19 February 2026; always check the current status of the act in ELI for legal matters.
